How LumaLayer works, step by step, written for clinicians, not admins.

Getting started

What LumaLayer does and the five-minute path to your first finished session.

LumaLayer is a caseload operating system for school and pediatric SLPs. It holds your students and their IEP goals, captures what happened in a session, and turns that into documentation, progress data, and a family summary, without you retyping anything.

The fastest way to understand it is to run one real session end to end. Budget about five minutes.

  1. Go to Students and press Add a student. First and last name are enough to start.
  2. Import that student's IEP so goals are available. You can also add goals by hand.
  3. From Sessions, press Start a session, then pick the student and the goals you're targeting.
  4. Record or type what happened, log trial data against each goal, then press Generate outputs.
  5. Review the SOAP and progress note on the Outputs screen, edit anything, and save.
  6. If the family has consent on file, share the summary to the parent portal.

Common mistakes

  • Starting a session before importing the IEP. The goal picker will be empty.
  • Closing the browser tab before pressing Generate outputs. The note is generated when you finish.
